- 1 kg white asparagus
- 1 liter water
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 20 g butter (optional)

Instructions
- Wash the asparagus thoroughly.
- Peel the asparagus stalks from just below the head down to the end. Cut off the woody ends (about 1-2 cm).
- In a large pot, bring water, salt, and sugar to a boil.
- Add the asparagus and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until tender when pierced with a fork. Cooking time depends on the thickness of the asparagus.
- If desired, add butter and lemon juice to the cooking water during the last few minutes of cooking.
- Remove the asparagus from the pot and serve immediately.
Notes
- To prevent the asparagus from breaking, tie the stalks together with kitchen twine before cooking.
- The cooking water can be saved and used as a base for soups or sauces.
- Serve with hollandaise sauce, melted butter, or a squeeze of lemon juice.
