Description

Learn how to cook white asparagus perfectly every time with this simple and straightforward guide. Enjoy tender, delicious asparagus as a side dish or in your favorite recipes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 kg white asparagus
  • 1 liter water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 20 g butter (optional)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash the asparagus thoroughly.
  2. Peel the asparagus stalks from just below the head down to the end. Cut off the woody ends (about 1-2 cm).
  3. In a large pot, bring water, salt, and sugar to a boil.
  4. Add the asparagus and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until tender when pierced with a fork. Cooking time depends on the thickness of the asparagus.
  5. If desired, add butter and lemon juice to the cooking water during the last few minutes of cooking.
  6. Remove the asparagus from the pot and serve immediately.

Notes

  • To prevent the asparagus from breaking, tie the stalks together with kitchen twine before cooking.
  • The cooking water can be saved and used as a base for soups or sauces.
  • Serve with hollandaise sauce, melted butter, or a squeeze of lemon juice.
