Description
Grilled White Asparagus (Weisen Spargel Grillen) is a simple and delicious way to enjoy fresh asparagus. Grilling brings out the natural sweetness of the asparagus and adds a smoky flavor that is perfect for spring and summer.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 kg white asparagus (Weisen Spargel)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- Optional: Lemon wedges for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the asparagus: Wash the asparagus thoroughly. Peel the lower third of each spear with a vegetable peeler. Trim off the tough ends.
- Preheat the grill: Preheat your grill to medium heat (about 180-200°C or 350-400°F).
- Season the asparagus: Place the asparagus in a bowl and drizzle with olive oil. Season with salt and pepper. Toss to coat evenly.
- Grill the asparagus: Place the asparagus spears on the preheated grill grates. Grill for 8-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until tender-crisp and lightly charred. The exact cooking time will depend on the thickness of the asparagus.
- Serve: Remove the asparagus from the grill and serve immediately. Serve with lemon wedges, if desired.
Notes
- For best results, use fresh, thick asparagus spears.
- Do not overcook the asparagus, as it will become mushy.
- If you don’t have a grill, you can also roast the asparagus in the oven at 200°C (400°F) for 15-20 minutes.
- Serve grilled asparagus as a side dish with grilled meats, fish, or poultry.
